THE DAVID LEVI GUINN SCHOOL
The main connection we have to India is the school that was formed about three years ago in honor of Levi. It is a school that offers free education to the poor village children (these families could never afford to send them to the government schools). They learn all the basic education from 1st to 10th class, and if they pass their exams are able to go to college and make an impact in society. They also learn bible stories, sing songs about Jesus and memorize verses. They hear the truth about Jesus Christ throughout their education. These are mostly Hindu families that send their children to this free school. Many families have heard for the first time about Jesus and who He is, and so many have turned to Christ because of the children speaking the truth about what they have learned.
DLG school even has good favor with the local government because they have a high percentage of students that pass the exams with very high grades. The Lord is showing great favor on this school and the 19 volunteering staff (that are certified and qualified to teach). Many gifts have been given at the right times to support these teachers (they actually get by on $20/month!). Our church is sending $300/month to help with this burden as of recently.
Pastor Edwin and his wife Bujji are the ones that heard our story of Levi back on my first visit in 2003. They said that God told them they were to start a school in honor of Levi to reach the lost people of India. They live their lives completely by faith, being that they are very poor, and yet they are so very passionate about seeking God’s kingdom and preaching the message of Jesus Christ to Hindus. They live in a small block building with a thatch roof that is attached to the school building. They also have 17 orphans of their own they take care of! There are officially 426 students in the school now. Many of them are picked up by jeep from surrounding villages. Presently much of their sustenance comes from a 1 acre rice field they are able to harvest rice from to eat and sell for fuel and land lease money.
God is doing amazing things in this part of the world, and we get to see some good come out of the tragic that happened in our lives over 6 years ago. Little did we know then that Levi’s Legacy would be known half way around the world. More importantly, through Levi’s death thousands have come to Jesus. One day when we are united with Jesus, and reunited with Levi, the picture will be crystal clear why these things had to be.
